As Brian Strom, the first chancellor of Rutgers Health prepares to leave next month after 12 years, he says the truest measure of his work lies in the new generation of health care workers and researchers he has guided and mentored.
Last week Strom was honored as New Jersey’s Educator of the Year for 2025 by the Research & Development Council of New Jersey, in large part for his mentorship of junior faculty.
The mentoring was a professional endeavor — until one of his mentees saved Strom’s life.
